Seeking Executive Director Candidates
Job Opportunity: Executive Director of Sustainable Sharon Coalition
Are you a self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit? Do you care deeply about sustainability and want to lead community-wide change? Sustainable Sharon Coalition (SSC) is seeking an inaugural Executive Director (ED) to help shape the future of sustainability in Sharon. Preference will be given to applicants residing in Sharon, MA, followed by those in neighboring municipalities. The ED will report to the SSC Board of Directors.
✅ Leadership Training & Certification
You'll be enrolled in the comprehensive Green Community Catalysts (GCC) 12-week Incubator — a $2,400 value — and receive a certificate of completion. This course is designed for local changemakers and sustainability leaders. It includes:
Weekly instruction and guided leadership development
One year of membership in the Green Impact Project, a peer networking and support group for EDs
Training in community engagement, fundraising, and EcoAction techniques, particularly for Sharon
After completing the Incubator course, you would apply what you learned directly in Sharon. This is your chance to turn passion into action — and build a legacy of sustainability in our town.
✅ Compensation
You will receive a one-time $1,000 stipend plus a percentage of the funds that you generate from new revenue streams.
✅ Community Impact
As an ED, you will have creative freedom and SSC board support to lead green grassroots projects for the Sharon community. You will be expected to network and collaborate with SSC members, local government, community leaders, and other stakeholders.
Role and Responsibilities
Oversee day-to-day operations and ensure they align with SSC’s mission, values, and financial strategy
Work with the SSC Board of Directors to set annual goals—and be evaluated on meeting those objectives
Work with the Treasurer to create and manage the annual budget
Lead development efforts, spending approximately 50% of your time on fundraising and grant activities
Mentor and training team members
Organize community events and recruit volunteers
Analyze current processes and implement systems as needed
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree
Strong business experience (nonprofit or for-profit), including development, communications, operations, HR, and finance
Passion and working knowledge of sustainability, climate action, and behavior change
Experience in engaging residents and driving action
A proven record in fundraising or sales
Strong relationships across sectors: local government, schools, businesses, nonprofits, and the community at large
Excellent presentation and leadership skills
Startup experience or the ability to thrive in an organizational building phase
