David Berger Awarded the 2022 Lynn Wolbarst Sustainability Award

Sustainable Sharon Coalition (SSC) is thrilled to announce that the 2022 Lynn Wolbarst Sustainability awardee is David Berger.

David Berger has been a member of the Sharon Community Garden since its inception in 1975. As a founding member of the Sharon Community Garden,  he and the original members helped shepherd a piece of land abandoned by the Sacred Heart School and created a rich, welcoming environment that produces both healthy foods and healthy social ties in the community.

Gardeners can rely on having a well-tended, irrigated plot of land close to home because of Dave’s commitment to keeping the garden in the public eye, advocating with town committees when the future of the garden was threatened, and defending the gardens against the encroachment of town growth.  His dedication to the accessibility of open land for those who want to turn the soil but have none has created generations of better eaters, better stewards of the land, and better neighbors.

The Sustainable Sharon Coalition would like to congratulate David for his contributions toward preserving and protecting the natural assets of the town of Sharon. For that, we are so fortunate that he is part of our community and are proud to recognize him for his achievements.
